MALEVOLENT CREATION Guitarist: 'LAMB OF GOD Definitely Aren't Doing Nothing New'
December 16, 2006HailMetal.Com recently conducted an interview with MALEVOLENT CREATION guitarist Jon Rubin. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
HailMetal.Com: How much work has been done on the new record? "Doomsday X" is the bands tenth studio release, is it not? How much have you contributed to it?
Jon: We have 13 songs and yes it is the tenth studio release. Phil [Fasciana, guitar] and I have songs we each wrote ourselves, so does Jay [Jason Blachowicz, bass] and some collaborations.
HailMetal.Com: Why the name "Doomsday X"? What is the meaning behind it?
Jon: "Doomsday X" means judgement day. We have had that title for a while and it just stuck with us.
HailMetal.Com: [Let's go] back little over a decade ago, right after the release of "Stillborn", when you guys parted ways with Roadrunner Records. Tell us the main reason behind this decision?
Jon: The main reason for parting ways with Roadrunner Records was Brett's [Hoffmann] vocals which were not up to their standards like the first two albums, which I think were not that bad. The production and just some really stupid bullshit. They really weren`t behind us anymore anyway. MALEVOLENT CREATION could have been bigger if they pushed us a little more like some other bands they had, but they didn't.
HailMetal.Com: Has the decision had a negative impact on sales of records at that time?
Jon: Yes, they did not promote us good at all.
HailMetal.Com: There's talk out there that bands like LAMB OF GOD stole riffs, certainly took ideas on board from bands like MALEVOLENT CREATION. Out of curiosity, have you guys heard their music and are you fans?
Jon: LAMB OF GOD definitely aren't doing nothing new that hasn't been done before. We don't listen to them at all and would rather listen to fucking SLAYER.
